With the dish resting on the support structure, the beam is bolted into place to keep the two sides of the support structure from collapsing.
The bolts that attach the inner ring to the dish are then removed. This photograph was taken inside the antenna base looking up. Ramon is watching the separation from the inside.
| The technicians keep
a close eye as the transporter slowly lowers the base of the antenna.
In the photograph below, the separation is complete. The dish will
now rest on the support structure with the base and transporter below
it. The workers will
take a well-deserved break. |
