correction to this equation may be needed. In its current form, the
equation implicitly assumes that both the VLA correlator data used to
form
and the VLBI data written to tape suffer the
same 0.81 loss due to the VLA correlator sampling efficiency.
However, this loss may not be appropriate for the VLBI data because
those data are sampled twice, first by the VLA correlator on the way
to the sum ports and again by the VLBI hardware (J. B. Hagen &
D. T. Farley, 1973, Radio Science, 8, 775; D. Briggs, 1990, MSc
Thesis, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology). This issue
has yet to be investigated.
