... system.1
A further correction to this equation may be needed. In its current form, the equation implicitly assumes that both the VLA correlator data used to form $T_{ant}/T_{sys}$ and the VLBI data written to tape suffer the same 0.81 loss due to the VLA correlator sampling efficiency. However, this loss may not be appropriate for the VLBI data because those data are sampled twice, first by the VLA correlator on the way to the sum ports and again by the VLBI hardware (J. B. Hagen & D. T. Farley, 1973, Radio Science, 8, 775; D. Briggs, 1990, MSc Thesis, New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology). This issue has yet to be investigated.
