The transporter lifts the antenna off its three piers inside the barn. The pier in the middle of the track is made of steel, rather than concrete, and is removed from the floor and stored out of the way. The transporter then, very carefully, moves the antenna to the back of the barn to the steel support structure on which the dish will rest. |

The tolerances are so
close that the antenna cannot be safely moved into position without
some adjustments. In the picture on the left, the stairway railing of
the antenna is being cut. In the photograph on the right, the welders
are removing part of the railing from the support structure. The
pieces will be welded back together when the antenna is
removed. |
