Help on VLAdb Form Fields

This document describes the use of each fields on the VLAdb Web forms.

Submit

Pressing this button submits the request to be processed by VLAdb.

Reset

Pressing this button restores all fields to default values, clears the selectable fields and returns the form to the state which it had when the user first entered it.

Equinox

The user may select the Equinox year to be used with the Equatorial coordinates. Only 1950 and 2000 are valid equinox for VLAdb, if you choose `Either' you should be careful not to match for coordinates as well, as a coordinate search demands one epoch or the other.

Coordinates

This field is used as the center of the field to be retrieved. The RA may be specified as either hh mm ss or ddd.fff , i.e., in hours or in decimal degrees. The DEC may be specified as ddd mm ss or ddd.fff , i.e., in degrees or decimal degrees. If an '*' is typed for either RA or DEC then no restriction will be applied for that axis.
Examples:
  6 45 10.76 -16 41 57.82
  6 45 10.76, -16 41 57.82
  6 45 10.76 *
  *, -16 41 57.82
  101.2948411 -16.6993947
  101.2948411, -16.6993947
  101.2948411, *
  * -16.6993947

Search Radius

This field is used to specify the search radius around the central coordinates. The radius may be specified as either dd mm ss or dd.fff. If no value is specified, a search radius of 1.0 degree will be used.

Dates Range

A query can be limited in time with either of these two fields. The recognized date formats are:
  10-Jan-1995
  10-jan-95

Program ID

This field allows the selection of a specific program ID. The field width is limited to 6 characters and is NOT case sensitive. The normal wild cards ('*' and '?') can be used.

Observer ID

This field allows the selection of a specific observer ID. The field width is limited to 6 characters and is an INTEGER NUMBER.

Source Name

This field allows the selection of a specific source. The field width is limited to 16 charactersi and is NOT case sensitive. The normal wild cards ('*' and '?') can be used.

Array Configuration

This selection box allows the user to select data with the VLA in one or more array configurations. Mosaic users can select multiple configurations either by dragging the mouse down the box with the button pressed, or pressing the control-key simultaneously with the mouse button when adding new selections. Pressing the control-key with the mouse button will toggle the selection on and off. Netscape users can select multiple choices simply by pressing the mouse button on each desired choice.

Correlator Mode

This selection box allows the user to chose data correlated with one or more correlator modes.

Observing Band

This selection box allows the user to chose data with frequencies corresponding to one or more specific Bands.

The different bands with their frequency range are:
  4 from 0.000 GHz to 0.1 GHz
  P 0.101 0.7
  L 0.701 3.0
  C 3.001 7.0
  X 7.001 12.0
  U 12.001 18.0
  K 18.001 35.0
  Q 35.001 100.0

Calibrator Code

This selection box allows the user to chose data with different calibrator codes.

The different calibrator code options with their definition are:
  Not Not a calibrator
A Astrometric quality (position known to within 0.001")
B Near astrometric (position know to within 0.01")
C Not astrometric (position know to within 0.05")
T Point source; flux and position badly determined

Array Processor Options

This selection box allows the user to chose data with different Array Processor Options.

The different Options with their definition follows:
  Blank	Continuum Mode
  B Band Pass Normalize
  H Hanning Smoothing
L Lag Spectrum (raw correlator output)

Solar System Object

This selection box allows the user to chose data from a Solar System Object.

The different Options with their definition follows:
No Not a Solar System ObjectContinuum Mode
  Sun Observing the Sun
Other Any other solar system objec

Time on Source

This input box allows users to search for scans longer than a specified time. The form takes a number representing the minimum amount of minutes to search for. Note: output from the search shows a TOS (Time On Source) column measured in seconds, not minutes. Input is in minutes as a convenience for the user.

Show Test Modes

Previous versions of the catalog lookup program screened out hits that were observed in the various `test modes'. This checkbox allows you to decide whether to include them in your query.

Additional Search Fields

Two additional search fields can be selected for a more generalized query. The value desired for the selected search field has to be entered in the related Text Box. It is the user's responsibility to enter the correct format for the value (i.e. character strings or numbers when expected).
The available search fields for both options are identical to allow maximum flexibility. In the case where both fields selected are the same the second one will be ignored.
